ASCII Tree
Announcing ASCII Tree: Quick ASCII trees for documentation
A tool for quickly making an ASCII tree from a folder.
You drag the folder to the web page, and you immediately get an ASCII-art tree that you can paste into documentation pages. It is particularly useful for GitHub README.txt, where you can show a new visitor where files are in the repo.
Current Status
It's actually useful. I use it to make quick ASCII-art trees. I also use it to find the .something files on my mac, when finder once again is hiding them, as happens after a software upgrade.
Log
- 01-Jan-2026: Launched
- 12-Jan-2026: Decided to shorten the bars in the tree, in effect indent spacing, but not to make the indent size an option
